Shift subtitle timing
If your subtitles appear too early or too late, move every caption by the same amount and download the corrected file in the format it came in.
Enter a positive number to delay the captions or a negative one to show them sooner. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to fix out-of-sync subtitles
- 1
Open your .srt or .vtt file, or paste what is inside it.
- 2
Enter how far to move the captions — for example 1.5, -0.75 or 1:02.5 seconds.
- 3
Optionally move only the captions after a set time, then download the fixed file.
Good to know
Finding the offset
Play the video and note when a line is spoken and when its caption appears. If the caption comes first, delay it with a positive number; if it comes late, use a negative one.
Fix only part of a file
If the drift starts after an edit or a removed section, set the 'only from' time so the captions before it stay where they are.
Captions moved before zero
A caption pushed entirely before the start of the video is removed; one that straddles the start is trimmed so it begins at zero.
Same format out
The shifted file keeps its format: SRT stays SRT and WebVTT stays WebVTT, including any WebVTT positioning settings.
Questions, answered
How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?
Measure how far apart a spoken line and its caption are, enter that difference here, and download the shifted file. Check a line near the end of the video too, to be sure the whole file lines up.
Should I enter a positive or a negative number?
Positive if the captions show up before the speech, to delay them; negative if they show up after the speech, to bring them forward.
What if the captions drift further out as the video plays?
A gap that grows over time usually means the subtitles were made for a different cut or frame rate, which a single shift cannot fix. Use a subtitle file made for the same version of the video.
Does it work with WebVTT files?
Yes. Open an .srt or a .vtt file; the shifted file is returned in the same format, with WebVTT positioning settings left in place.
Is my subtitle file uploaded?
No. The file is read and shifted in your browser and is not sent to our servers.
